What is LCMS?
When Lutherans came to America and founded congregations, the congregations realized that there were things that they could not do on their own but could do together such as start schools and send missionaries overseas. To do, this, Lutheran congregations formed synods to do together what they could not do separately. One of these synods is the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. It was started in Perry County, Missouri in 1847 and from there branched out to other parts of the United States with more congregations joining them, including St. John’s.
